Holler and Dash Biscuit House recently opened its first location in Homewood. This concept is Cracker Barrel Country Store’s entry to the fast-casual restaurant business, but you won’t find rocking chairs outside. And inside you will find an ambience of exposed bricks, industrial lighting, and a small wall of Southern products for sale.
On my first visit I surprisingly find it full of mostly young women. While waiting in line to order, I am welcomed and handed a menu made up of signature biscuits, sides, and more favorites, plus beer, wine, and other hot and cold beverages. With a view of the open kitchen, I see the dough being hand mixed and biscuits being handmade.
Since I try to eat seasonally, and strawberries are in season, I choose the Strawberry and Dash. After taking a number (97) and waiting for it to be “hollered,” I watch a variety of unique biscuits and biscuit sandwiches being served to diners nearby. Soon my biscuit arrives. It is cut in half, golden and crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It is layered with a mountain of whipped cream, dollops of cream cheese, and slices of strawberries. Think “strawberry shortcake” for breakfast. It is lovely and highly recommended.
